About the talk
After the collapse of Roman Britain, Britain fragmented into dozens of small kingdoms and principalities. One of these was the kingdom of Elmet which covered the area now known as South and West Yorkshire. Nearly all trace of it was lost when King Edwin conquered Elmet and added it to the great Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Northumbria.
Nearly all trace, but not all…
Here and there, a few scraps of evidence still exist, a tombstone, a place name or two, and some enigmatic earthworks. If these are taken together a picture begins to form and the lost kingdom of Elmet emerges out of the Dark Ages.
All talks cost £50 for those groups within West Yorkshire or £50 plus travel expenses to those outside the county. A 20% discount is available if you book two or more talks or guided walks.
