At the request of the Shipley Photographs and Memories Facebook Group Dave Weldrake is leading guided walk around Hirst Wood and the adjacent area (West Yorkshire, UK) on the afternoon of Sunday 1eth September 2015.

A brief outline of the route

The walk starts from the Hirst Wood car park follows Hirst Lane and Sleningford Gardens into the woodland at the rear of Hirst Wood Cemetery. The route returns via Nab Wood Cemetery, the riverside and Hirst Wood itself.

Detailed Information

Starting point: In the public car park in the public car park at the bottom of Hirst Lane, Shipley (West Yorkshire, UK)

Start Time: 2.00 PM

Length of walk: Two miles

Duration of walk: Approx. two hours

Difficulty: Moderate. There are no steep ascents or descent but the ground is uneven in places and may be boggy when wet. The route is not suitable for buggies or pushchairs.

What you will see or hear about: The Leeds Liverpool canal, the railway, possible prehistoric walling, Hirst Wood and Nab Wood Cemeteries, New Hirst Mill, Hirst Wood.
