The Soldier’s Trench – a possible stone circle on Brackenahll Green

I’ve just finished updating my Discover Your Local Heritage page. This is where I list the sources I use in the heritage and history courses I teach. It helps my students to carry out their own researches into the development of their own communities. It could help you too.

Visit Discover Your Local Heritage today. You never know what you’ll find.

The next 7-week course Aire Valley Industries: A Historical Perspective starts on the 17th of April at the Kirkgate Centre in Shipley. For full details or to enrol go to the WEA website now.

This is the second in a short series of guided walks on Ilkley Moor led by Heritage Education. It starts from the car park at the bottom of the track leading up from Wells Road to the White Wells Visitor Centre at 2.00 on the afternoon of Saturday 25th of April.   We will be looking at several notable examples of Rock Art as well as discussing the development of Ilkley as a spa town.

This is a strenuous walk rising steeply uphill over rough paths. Suitable footwear and outdoor clothing are essential.

The cost of the walk is £3. For more detailed information click here.

This is the latest of a series of extremely popular courses which I have run for the Workers’ Educational Association in Shipley (West Yorkshire, UK). It focuses on four topics – communications networks, the development of the textile industry, coal and the age of steam, and the development of light engineering in the valley. The course features a mixture of classroom sessions and guided walks.
